Introducing the Greenline

We are excited to introduce our new "Greenline"concept. The idea is simple; we would rather invest in your skin than in our packaging. Sure fancy little boxes and wrappers look nice, but they raise your price without adding anything beneficial to the product itself. Plus, the world could do with a little less trash and we'd like to do our part.
Luxurious salt soak
You can now buy these specially created label-free items in bulk at our Pittsburgh pop-up markets. Just bring a clean container with a lid for items like our salt soaks. We'll have containers available should you need and all of our Greenline products are available by the ounce to exactly fit your needs.
If you're local to Pittsburgh, then we invite you to stop down to our next pop-up. If you're from out-of-town, just give us the name of your favorite shop and we'll take care of the rest.

We will continue to add to this line and keep everyone updated.

Stay green my friends!

RAW Natural Born Artist Show

We have been plugging away over here in the studio and one fine
day while adding a fresh coat of (recycled) paint to the walls I got a call asking if I wanted to be a featured artist in an upcoming show? Well I thought, this sounds kind of neat! While I have always thought of my soaps as usable art I didn't realize that others may as well.

We checked into the organization a little bit and decided to go for it, why not?!? It is with great excitement that I announce that we will be a featured artist at the end of this month in Pittsburgh! We are both humbled and excited about being able to showcase our creations in such a cool way.

So what is RAW? It is a show that is in cities all over the country and gives new and emerging artists a chance to be discovered. This show includes musicians, performance artists, fashion designers, photographers, jewelery and other accessories designers as well we us, the Soapsmiths!

We have been working like crazy in the studio (yes, I stopped painting immediately!) to make products, make sure our packaging is up to snuff, update product photos (they need to look art show ready you know.) and we are even working on a super artsy feeling booth for our wares. While this is a lot of work it is also really fun to be able to think of our soaps as little pieces of art.

If you are reading this and live in Pittsburgh or will be in Pittsburgh at the end of February come on out and check this event out.

We have a sweet profile up on their page which you should take a peek at: http://rawartists.org/soapsmithspgh tickets can also be purchased through this link.

We will continue to update on what we are up to with this neat opportunity and hope to see you there!

Goals for 2019

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I love the new year, it's a time when everyone can have a clean slate, a chance to start over with new goal, dreams and aspirations.

Over here at Soapsmiths we are busy building up inventory after an awesome holiday sell out season. While we work on that we are thinking about some goals we have both personally and professionally for this year. The biggest goal we have is to create less consumer waste through minimal packaging. Ok so what does that little blurb mean? Well we will be working on changing our soap packaging to not have ANY plastic in it for starters. Second we are looking into the options of using compostable or plantable materials. Yup, you read right, plantable packaging! How cool would that be? Buy a delicious soap and end up with some beautiful wildflowers to boot!

On a personal level we have started to compost which is kind of neat, our trash output has been so greatly reduced since we began. I have also made some re-usable cloth snack baggies which have really come in handy. We switched from parchment paper to silicone baking mats and from paper towels to cloth napkins. I threw our last synthetic sponge away and we have been using these cute little handmade washcloths ever since. We are also lucky enough to live near a co-op so I shop the bulk section there as often as I can and of course, don't forget the cloth shopping bags! The changes came about one or two at a time and sometimes we would slip up and forget but the key is to keep on going and not beat yourself up about it. As I learn of more ways to reduce my waste I will implement them into our lives.

Today, for example, I made some beeswax food wraps which I video'd and will share below, it was very simple and I love that they will not end up in a landfill after one use.

What are some things you all do to reduce your waste? I would love to hear from you.

'Till next time
